CyberGhost Review

CyberGhost

Always Connected – But in a Safe Way. With CyberGhost you become fully protected against hackers, mass surveillance or online behavior tracking.

Some of CyberGhost’s features include:

  • Kill switch. CyberGhost will automatically block all Internet connections to prevent you accidentally exposing personal data over unsecure connections.
  • DNS Leak protection. CyberGhost’s infrastructure provides an in-house DNS server which prevents phishing and man-in-the-middle attacks, and allows users to bypass censorship.
  • NAT Firewall. CyberGhost’s server-hosted firewall protects against hacking and similar threats by blocking incoming connection attempts.
  • High speeds. CyberGhost VPN does not appear to affect Internet speed negatively.

All things considered, CyberGhost certainly looks like one of the better offers out there. If you’re looking for a free VPN, you’re almost certainly not going to find much better, and the paid version is definitely worth the money.

The only cons are that free users don’t have access to the Australian servers, and the fact that they do log, however circumspectly, their users’ data.

VyprVPN – Quick Summary

VyprVPN Review

VyprVPN

VyprVPN offers easy to use, cutting edge apps for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and even your router so you can make sure all of our devices are secured in seconds. One-click connect, one-tap service selection and ping testing are features of their easy to user and stable applications.

Some of VyprVPN’s features include:

  • No third-party servers. VyprVPN’s servers are all their own, and no third party has access to them.
  • High speeds. VyprVPN compares favourably on speed tests against other VPN providers, with a much lower impact on browsing and download speeds.
  • Unlimited use. VyprVPN does not throttle or cap your use, or limit switching between servers, so you will never run out or be shackled to a slow server.
  • Chameleon technology. VyprVPN’s proprietary Chameleon technology scrambles metadata to keep it safe from deep packet inspection, dramatically improving your odds of staying connected in countries such as China, Russia, Iran, and Syria, which may block other VPNs.

VyprDNS

VyprDNS. While most Internet users rely on their ISP’s DNS servers or a third-party DNS service, VyprVPN users have access to the VyprDNS service, a zero-knowledge DNS service which protects against man-in-the-middle attacks and bypasses DNS filtering without logging a single thing about your web traffic. This allows you to browse the Internet safely and securely without worrying about ads, censorship, or filtering. VyprDNS is automatically activated when you use VyprVPN.

All things considered, VyprVPN is an excellent choice for the security-conscious Internet user who doesn’t want to put up with connection speeds straight out of the Stone Age or give unscrupulous strangers access to their data. The few cons, such as the unpredictable price with the exchange rate and the slightly-less-than-elegant appearance of the Windows app, are minor compared to the rich features and convenience the service offers.

NordVPN – Quick Summary

NordVPN Review

NordVPN

NordVPN is the worlds most advanced VPN. Get superfast servers, lightning speed, double data encryption and more with NordVPN's extremely affordable VPN plans.

Some of NordVPN’s features include:

  • No logging. They don’t keep any logs of their clients’ Internet usage, and so they cannot be forced to provide any information about their clients to the authorities.
  • Tor over VPN. They have support for using the Tor network over the VPN, for when normal paranoia just isn’t cutting it.
  • Kill switch. Their kill-switch feature will shut down active connections if your VPN drops, so you’re never at risk of accidentally exposing your data.
  • Multiple devices. NordVPN offers support for more simultaneous connection than any VPN we’ve seen yet.
  • P2P friendly. NordVPN does not throttle or otherwise prohibit P2P or Bittorrent traffic.
  • Netflix friendly. NordVPN is committed to making sure that their service continues to work with Netflix. You won’t have to disable your security to catch up with Game of Thrones with this service.

Basically, our NordVPN review concludes that NordVPN is, and remains, the gold standard when it comes to VPN services. With a feature-rich service and a pocket-friendly price tag, NordVPN is one of the best options you will find for your Internet security.

They do not, however, remove ads from website you visit, as many other VPN providers do.

Private Internet Access – Quick Summary

pia-logo

Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access is one of the best VPNs going around for Australians, they have easy to use software and provide a Tier-1 service. Sign up now!

Some of Private Internet Access’ features include:

  • Pleasingly minimalist apps without a lot of bells and whistles, which should please those who don’t want to spend endless hours faffing about with their settings.
  • No traffic logs. Private Internet Access neither does not log their users’ data in any way.
  • Support for PPTP, OpenVPN, and L2TP/IPSec.
  • Kill switch. Private Internet Access’ apps will secure your Internet connection when you lose connection to the VPN, meaning that you will never be caught broadcasting your data over a private network.
  • Shared IPs. Private Internet Access routes their client traffic through a wide variety of IP addresses through an anonymous system, further increasing their users’ security.
  • DNS Leak Protection. Built-in feature that ensures that DNS requests are not broadcast on the open web, but are made through a safe and private no-log service.
  • Bittorrent friendly. Since they don’t log user data, they have no way of knowing whether their users are torrenting data, and have gone on record as saying that they wouldn’t stop them if they did.

Basically, bar a few hassles here and there – the fact that you can’t access Netflix via them anymore and they don’t seem to be working to change that, and the fact that troubleshooting is almost impossible due to the lack of error messages – Private Internet Access is definitely among the best of the services we’ve reviewed.

SaferVPN Review

SaferVPN

SaferVPN provides an ultra fast VPN service so you can browse the internet without boundaries. It will work anywhere, on any device…

Some of SaferVPN’s features include:

  • Easy to use. SaferVPN’s setup takes seconds, and using their service is as simple as could be.

  • Easy-to-use apps. Their apps are incredibly simple and easy to use.
  • No third parties. SaferVPN owns their own servers, which means that they don’t give third parties access to your data.

On the whole, SaferVPN seems like a nice starter option for someone new to the VPN scene, but there are several cons for those with a more security-conscious mind-set, such as their logging policies and the lack of in-house DNS support.

StrongVPN – Quick Summary

StrongVPN Review

StrongVPN

Unblock Content Worldwide, Get access to Netflix, Facebook, YouTube, BBC, Sky Go, Hulu, Spotify, ABC and many more with StrongVPNs' service. Get your privacy back and ensure your internet is secure!

Some of StrongVPN’s features include:

  • No bandwidth charges or speed limits.
  • Data scrambler. StrongVPN’s Windows and Android applications include a Data Scrambler feature for additional security.
  • Multiple protocols supported. They offer support for OPenVPN, IPSec, PPTP, L2TP and SSTP.
  • Routers. They offer a range of routers for sale that come preinstalled with their software.
  • Zero-logging policy. They log no information about clients’ usage.
  • Separate DNS service. StrongVPN also offers StrongDNS, a DNS protection service, as a separate service. Useful, if you only want protection against DNS filtering.

All in all, this StrongVPN review has to conclude that StrongVPN, while an impressive service on the face of it and with a very long track record (The company was founded in 1994), is perhaps not the best on offer. It’s more expensive than many others, and looks rather feature-poor compared to other offerings we’ve seen lately.

On the other hand, if what you’re looking for is a bare-bones VPN with a long history and an excellent reputation, StrongVPN may be exactly what you’re looking for.

TorGuard – Quick Summary

TorGuard Review

TorGuard

TorGuard offers a fantastic Anonymous VPN client for Australian customers who want to surf the web with privacy and utilise bittorrent services.

Some of their features include:

  • Unlimited speed and Bandwidth. They won’t throttle or limit your speed.
  • Multi-protocol support. They support OpenVPN (via Viscosity), SSTP, S2TP, and IPSec.
  • Stealth VPN. Bypass Deep Packet Inspection with TorGuard’s stealth connections, which are guaranteed to protect your data anywhere in the world.
  • Kill Switch. TorGuard’s apps will shut down apps on their Kill List if the VPN service is interrupted, preventing you from exposing your data on unsecured connections.
  • 1 600 servers in 50+ countries.
  • Zero-logging policy. TorGuard does not keep any traffic or usage logs from the VPN or the Proxy service. They mention, however, that they may use their users’ email addresses (if entered on their website) to send information regarding products and services.

In the end, we conclude that TorGuard is just what it says on the tin – a solid VPN for people who want to make use of torrents and P2P services. Prices are a bit on the high end for a VPN, and except for its Stealth VPN service, doesn’t offer anything to get really excited over.

Hide My Ass – Quick Summary

Hide My Ass Review

Hide My Ass

Hide My Ass, not only has a funny name – they provide an unbelievable service for customers that really value their online privacy and security.

Some of Hide My Ass’s features include:

  • Really brilliant name. We mean that sincerely. Their mascot is also funny.
  • Kill Switch. Their applications will cut applications you select off from the Internet if you lose your connection to the VPN, making sure that you’re never online without protection.
  • Very easy to set up. Download, install, set location and go. There’s not much more to using Hide My Ass’s service than that.
  • One-click IP change. Does what it says on the tin. There’s also a setting that makes the application change your IP address at pre-set intervals.
  • Truly enormous number of servers. Scattered right across the world, their vast number of servers mean that you’re never far from a server.

In the end, our Hide My Ass review concludes that Hide My Ass has a really great name, offers a brilliant service, but may, in fact, not be worth its hefty price tag, especially not to users who are fanatical about protecting their privacy. It’s a little bit ironic that they offer services only truly useful to the super-paranoid (honestly, nobody else is going to put up with being disconnected every 20 minutes to change their IP) while having a privacy and logging policy that will inevitably send those same users running for the hills.
