Could Better VPNs Have Prevented Donald Trump From Winning?

December 5, 2016 Posted in VPN Media by No Comments

Every fear on the integrity and security of America turned into reality with Donald Trump’s surprising win during the Presidential elections. Also, the absolute power of the US president to pry into the private life of citizens in the name of national security has surfaced. The question on most Democrats mind is –are all the conspiracy theories true? Did Trump win because of a rigged polls system? How secure are those citizens who challenged Trump’s perception?

Trumps Victory a Sign of Compromised Internet Security?

Throughout the campaign, one recurring problem was the flaw in security which led to leak of personal emails sent out by Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton. The email were first accessed by Russian Hackers followed by WikiLeaks and ultimately by the FBI. Clinton’s dreams of becoming the first woman President of America would have been fulfilled if internet security was untraversable.

Improved Security Measures: The Need Of The Hour

While the Republicans celebrate Trump’s victory, all those who backed Hillary cannot escape the feeling of impending doom and its fear. Upgrades in privacy and security cannot be ignored anymore especially after this latest debacle. The first wakeup call on the integrity of the security walls came after the infamous whistle blower Edward Snowden’s revelations. While these measures will undoubtedly hinder cyber attackers, it will simultaneously make it impossible for law enforcement agencies to collect information. A word of advice from the techies- uses Tor, VPN or Signal for all online interactions if you wish to oppose the president’s judgement.

Going back to Trump’s presidential campaign especially his vow to penetrate the internet to chase out all Islamic immigrants- apart from this statement being immoral on the grounds of humanity, a serious question on the misuse of unrestricted privileged access into every citizen’s personal life is raised.

Tech companies, however, are racing forward to protect data of consumers from government intrusion. Encryption measures are now employed by all major social sites like Twitter, WhatsApp, Microsoft, Google, Apple and Yahoo.

VPN as a way forward

Data can be made inaccessible to unauthorized sources only by enforcing end-to-end encryption. When employed, even on gaining access to the transmitted information, deciphering the message will remain a challenge. VPN is the only way forward. This even those who supported the NSA after Snowden’s derogatory revelations during Obama’s rule, are in agreement with- if the networks are open, in the hands of Trump, nothing but large scale privacy violation is expected.
